The movement classes at P.S. 222 focuses on developing the motor coordination, physical strength, agility and mindfulness of each student in an all-inclusive setting. By providing a calm and non-competitive environment each child is encouraged to perform at his or her personal best. Each class emphasizes harmony and cooperation in order to create the foundation for mutual trust and self-confidence; along with a heightened degree of mental clarity and increased sense of physical and emotional well- being. By focusing on mindfulness we are able to help our students and their ability to engage in tasks even when emotions are activated. Mindfulness reduces feelings of stress and improves anxiety and distress when placed in a stressful social situation that we aim for each student to apply not only in movement classes but throughout their daily lives.
